The Friends of Savernake Hospital and the Community were delighted to receive the much-anticipated news from Brighter Futures that the main construction of the Radiotherapy Centre at GWH Swindon would begin in early August 2020. Contractor, John Sisk & Son anticipate the build to be completed by the end of 2021. Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – GWH’s partner and local provider of radiotherapy services – expect to begin treating patients in Swindon shortly after the build is completed.
The GBP 2.9 million Radiotherapy Appeal, started by Brighter Futures in 2015 to bring radiotherapy to the Swindon Hospital, has been supported by the Friends since its inception, with two separate maximum grants over the past few years of GBP 10,000 (2015 and 2017).
In a recent letter from Jane Leighton, Major Gifts Manager at Brighter Futures, she thanked the Friends for supporting the appeal:
“Thank you again for supporting Brighter Futures’ Radiotherapy Appeal so generously and helping us to bring to fruition the most significant improvement in local cancer care for a generation. Although we can’t celebrate in person with you [due to current Covid 19 restrictions on gatherings], when the work starts on site we will be thinking of each and every one of our supporters who have helped us get to this momentous point.”
