On 8th June, Janet Louth, Liz Wright & Keith Marshall, three of the trustees of the Friends of Savernake Hospital, were given a first glimpse of the new Radiotherapy Centre at Great Western Hospital, which is nearing completion and is due to begin operating next month.
Work on the new facility began in August 2020 and will make a huge difference to many cancer patients, who would otherwise have to travel to Churchill Hospital in Oxford for their treatment. It is estimated that it will save more than 13,000 journeys to Oxford every year and in doing so will significantly reduce the stress of travelling such long distances on a regular basis. Our trustees were given a guided tour of the state of the art facility by Jane Leighton from the Brighter Futures Appeal at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, who orchestrated the appeal. During which, Jane said that they were incredibly grateful to the Friends for their major donations and said that it was so good to show them what they had helped to achieve.
