The Friends have recently funded the purchase of an anxiety blanket for Cotswold House – the specialist adult eating disorder unit at Savernake Hospital.
Much has been written about the benefits of anxiety blankets (also known as gravity blankets) in recent years – and they are increasingly being used in many hospitals and for therapeutic programmes.
The weighted blankets offer deep pressure simulation – similar to the experience of a warm hug – and creates a sense of calm and safety for those who feel anxious or overstimulated.
December 2019 update: the Friends have agreed to fund the purchase of a further – lighter-weight – anxiety blanket for Cotswold House.
