As previously reported, construction work started on the radiotherapy centre site at Great Western Hospital, Swindon in early August 2020 – and continues to progress at speed.
Brighter Futures have been in touch with the Friends to report that the concrete for the linear accelerator bunker has now been poured (which, we understand, is quite a big moment in the schedule of works). Over the coming weeks the walls of the bunker will start to emerge.
On Friday 23 October, Jason Dorset OUH DOF, Dr Claire Hobbs, Kevin McNamara, CEO, Ajaz Shafi MD for John Sisk and Catherine Newman, Associate Director of Fundraising and Voluntary Services (Brighter Futures) met on site for a socially distanced “spade in the ground” photo opportunity on site. Friends trustees have also been invited to visit the site for a small photo opportunity, which we hope to do in the coming weeks.
In both 2015 and 2017 Friends provided a grant to Brighter Futures of £10,000 (£20,000 in total) towards the new radiotherapy centre.
