As reported on 2 October in both the Gazette & Herald (Marlbrough and Pewsey edition) and on Marlborough News Online, Prospect Hospice is seeking to raise £75,000 for an outpatient centre at Savernake Hospital. This fantastic project will bring end of life care closer to home for patients and their families in Marlborough and the surrounding areas.
The proposed services, which will be provided in a suite of rooms in the Lavington Centre, once refurbished, will include a day hospice, courses for patients on coping with breathlessness, living with fatigue and anxiety management, carers’ courses, assessment by a Prospect nurse specialist, family support and therapy teams. Staff on site will include an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, art therapist, lymphoedema therapist, nurses, family support workers, a bereavement team, an education team and volunteers.
An agreement was signed for this project between the Great Western Hospitals Trust and Prospect in August 2014, and, subject to the necessary funds being raised, refurbishment work will commence for the new outpatient centre at Savernake on 1 April 2015 with doors opening to patients and their families in June 2015.
The people of Marlborough are being asked to support this six month appeal by organising fundraising events, both big and small.
